Lancaster Station deputies responded to a possible explosive device call near the 600 block of West Ave J-12. Responding deputies located two long cylinder shaped objects in the roadway of J-12 mid-block between Elm Ave and Fig Ave. The objects resembled “pipe bombs”. For the safety of the neighborhood, an immediate lock-down of homes within an approximate ¼ mile radius was conducted including nearby Sierra Elementary School.

A team from the Arson Explosives Detail responded to investigate the suspicious devices. They collected the objects and rendering them safe. After further examination, it is believed the objects were industrial gas canisters and not improvised explosives. The canisters may have fallen unknowingly from a passing vehicle.

The school and neighborhood were removed from the lock-down at approximately 1:30 pm.
